Do it for your soul
and for the soul

Do it for your soul

Whenever I get the common "so, what do you do?" question, my answer is "I'm a creator". I choose this because I believe it properly encompasses what I do, and really what we all do as human beings. We are always in the moment of creation - every word we say, thought we have and action we take creates reality as we know it, whether we're conscious of it or not.
My favorite channel for creativity is through art. I've had the pleasure of building large scale art, and, more recently, smaller art for the home. Check them out:
I created Activated Art to share my own inspirations and creations with all who resonate with them. Every piece is made to send beauty, love, and inspiration out into the world and inspire others to pursue their passions and let their light shine for all to see.
I created The Art of Life as the next version of my online presence, where I will be writing about everything I am passionate about, from making art to spirituality and energetic practices.
Ascension is a twenty-foot tall climbable sculpture that creates a space for us to reimagine what it means to love others by first loving ourselves.
I believe everyone on this planet has a unique gift that they are here to give to the world, and that this gift is realized when we allow ourselves to be our full selves. In this way, we all have the potential to be leaders, and leadership will look and feel different for everyone.
For me, in addition to being an artist, leadership manifests within business as well as through coaching and group facilitation.
I created Black Kings Circle to give Black men a space to be real with themselves and other Black men about the highs, and lows, of being a Black man in a postcolonial world. This circle is for those who are ready to look within themselves with courage. If you’re up for the challenge, you’ll come out the other side with a new perspective… not only about what it means for you to be Black, but what it means for you to be a Black King.
In 2020, I joined Catch&Release to lead the Product Development team. We are a VC-backed technology company creating a marketplace that, for the first time, connects the advertising industry to the entire internet as a source of content that can be licensed for commercial campaigns. As we scale, our platform will be the backbone of a new economy that empowers millions of people across the internet to get paid and recognized for the content they create every day.
In 2011, at 23, I co-founded Womply. Over the next four years I helped grow it to 100 employees and 30,000 brick and mortar merchant customers, having raised $20M in funding. Throughout my tenure, I played a critical role across product development, marketing, operations, sales, business strategy, and hiring. Today, Womply employs over 250 people, has 450,000 merchants using its platform, and has raised over $50M in venture capital.
Before Womply, I was a Mechanical Engineering student at MIT, where I got my bachelors degree in 2009. For my senior thesis I designed and prototyped a little machine that could print high resolution images on top of foamy beverages!
I also co-authored a patent with my dad while I was in high school.
If I had to choose one word to describe my approach to life, it would be "flow", a term coined by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, who literally wrote the book on it. For me, flow is a way of life, and the quote above about living life as a bird flies or fish swims resonates deeply. When I'm in flow, I'm exactly where I need to be and everything is happening as it should. Time becomes irrelevant and I'm simply being my being.
My purest moments of flow arise when I'm creating something that my soul yearns to be brought into existence. This is how Ascension came to be, and that was one of the most magical creation processes I've ever been a part of.
Spinning poi or Dragon staff are other ways I love achieving flow. These, like juggling and many other forms of prop manipulation, are literally called "flow arts" because they're great at helping us get out of our heads and into our bodies. Hours turn into minutes when flowing with these fun props.
Meditation, running, and yoga are also part of my regular practice. All of these activities, mental and physical, work together wonderfully to help me stay balanced and in flow as much as possible.
